Today Prime Minister Netanyahu handed over the Port of Haifa to Gautan Adani, CEO and founder of the Adani Group (India).

Reuters and Jerusalem Post reported (10.01.2023) that the deal between Israel and India’s ‘Adani Group‘ got finalized. The now former state-owned Port of Haifa (Haifa Port Company, a governmental company) get sold for $1,15 billion. The consortium is led by the Indian billionaire Gautam Adani. It is said that he has a net fortune of about $125 billion and should be the third richest man on earth.
The consortium has two players: The ‘Adani Group’ with 70% share and ‘Gadot Chemical Tankers and Terminal Ltd.’ holding 30% of the ownership. The consortium won the tender in July of the year 2022 and brought it finally to a close.
Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, said on Twitter:”Without big ceremonies, in a modest event in the office of the director general of finance, the proceeds were recorded on the Hashkal screens and the sale of Haifa port was closed for an incredible amount that we never dreamed of. This ends a long privatization process that I had the privilege of signing the government’s decision in my capacity as Minister of Transportation. This sale is good for the port, good for port competition“
The Port of Haifa clears about 50% of the total trade of Israel. The consortium got the rights of operation till 2054. The direct competitor the recently built (September 2022) new port in Haifa, which is operated by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co.
India uttered several times – as reported on VonNaftali – the wish to establish a free trade zone with Israel and the Gulf States. In others words a free trade zone between India and the Abraham Accords State. The sometimes one-sided dependence of Israel on China will be counter-balanced.
A new alliance between India and Israel is without any doubt more welcomed by the USA than economic ties between China and Israel. India is a democracy, China is a socialist dictatorship. No hard decision about where Israel should stand.
Hand Over Today – Perspective Abraham Accords
Today the official hand over of the Port of Haifa toke place. Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “I say to our political opponents: it is not fun to lose the elections, but we should not turn the resentment into an economic damage to the country. It won’t help either – because we have a strong economy that will continue to grow stronger!”
However, the most remarkable quote was said by Gautam Adan, who stressed the relevance of the Abraham Accords. Clear a sign that the establishment of a new free trade zone with India and the Abraham Accords States is under way. That would be a game changer on a global level.
Gautam Adan said: “Privileged to meet with @IsraeliPM @netanyahu on this momentous day as the Port of Haifa is handed over to the Adani Group. The Abraham Accord will be a game changer for the Mediterranean sea logistics. Adani Gadot set to transform Haifa Port into a landmark for all to admire.”
Adan made also a clear statement to change the skyline of Haifa, which has a poor performance. To become a top A-class port, Haifa has to beef up its infrastructure which is more or less shredded by the acting major Einat Kalisch-Rotem. It is for sure that Kalisch-Rotem will not be reelected due to her outrageous underperformance: collapsing infrastructure, a de facto non-working administration and hoards of wild boars are endangering the streets of Haifa.
“We are talking to our Arab neighbors, after the historical Abraham Accords, about connecting the rail links of Saudi Arabia through Jordan to Haifa port. Haifa will become the entry point and exit point for a vast number of goods that will reach the Mediterranean and Europe directly, without having to go around the Arabian peninsula.”, said Netanyahu.
With the port operated by one of the world’s largest corporations and with a strategic view of the Abraham Accords, Haifa is poised to flourish again.

Indien äußerte mehrfach – wie auf VonNaftali berichtet – den Wunsch, eine Freihandelszone mit Israel und den Golfstaaten zu errichten. Mit anderen Worten eine Freihandelszone zwischen Indien und dem Staat Abraham Accords. Die teilweise einseitige Abhängigkeit Israels von China wird ausgeglichen.
Ein neues Bündnis zwischen Indien und Israel wird von den USA zweifelsohne mehr begrüßt als wirtschaftliche Beziehungen zwischen China und Israel. Indien ist eine Demokratie, China eine sozialistische Diktatur. Keine harte Entscheidung darüber, wo Israel stehen sollte.
Übergabe heute – Perspective Abraham Accords
Heute fand die offizielle Übergabe des Hafens von Haifa statt. Ministerpräsident Netanjahu sagte: „Ich sage unseren politischen Gegnern: Es macht keinen Spaß, die Wahlen zu verlieren, aber wir sollten die Ressentiments nicht in einen wirtschaftlichen Schaden für das Land umwandeln. Es wird auch nicht helfen – weil wir eine starke Wirtschaft haben.“ das wird noch stärker werden!”
Das bemerkenswerteste Zitat stammt jedoch von Gautam Adan, der die Relevanz der Abkommen von Abraham betonte. Ein klares Zeichen dafür, dass die Einrichtung einer neuen Freihandelszone mit Indien und den Staaten des Abraham-Abkommens im Gange ist. Das wäre ein Game Changer auf globaler Ebene.
Gautam Adan sagte: „Ich habe das Privileg, mich an diesem bedeutsamen Tag, an dem der Hafen von Haifa an die Adani-Gruppe übergeben wird, mit @IsraeliPM @netanyahu zu treffen. Das Abraham-Abkommen wird die Mittelmeerlogistik grundlegend verändern. Adani Gadot will den Hafen von Haifa in ein Wahrzeichen verwandeln, das alle bewundern können.””
Adan machte auch eine klare Aussage, die Skyline von Haifa zu ändern, die eigentlich kaum vorhanden ist und ein Beispiel bürokratischer Inkompetenz darstellt. Um ein Top-A-Hafen zu werden, muss Haifa seine Infrastruktur aufrüsten, die vom amtierenden Major Einat Kalisch-Rotem mehr oder weniger endgültig und vollständig in den Boden gerammt worden ist.
Sicher ist, dass Kalisch-Rotem aufgrund ihrer skandalösen Underperformance nicht wiedergewählt werden wird: Zusammenbrechende Infrastruktur, eine de facto nicht funktionierende Verwaltung und Horden von Wildschweinen gefährden die Straßen Haifas.
„Wir sprechen mit unseren arabischen Nachbarn nach den historischen Abraham-Abkommen darüber, die Eisenbahnverbindungen von Saudi-Arabien über Jordanien mit dem Hafen von Haifa zu verbinden. Haifa wird zum Ein- und Ausgangspunkt für eine große Anzahl von Waren, die das Mittelmeer erreichen werden Europa direkt, ohne die Arabische Halbinsel umgehen zu müssen”, sagte Netanjahu.
Mit dem Hafen betrieben von einem der größten Wirtschaftsunternehmen der Welt und mit strategischem Blick auf das Abraham Abkommen, wird Haifa eine neue Blüte erleben.
