Member of Knesset (MK) Almog Cohen (Otzma Yehudit) appealed today in an official letter to the Ministry of Justice to declare the so-called NGO ‘Brother in Arms’ (BiA) as an illegal organization.
Amelie Botbol wrote for JNS: “The group (note by VonNaftali: by group, it is referred to ‘BiA’) was heavily criticized for encouraging reservists not to show up for duty. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzl Halevi told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the calls caused “harm to the security of the state.”

On X Almog Cohen summarized in his argumentation against ‘Brother in Arms’: “The organization operates as a violent militia, which called for a wave of active resistance that endangers the security of the country and leads illegal actions. Among his actions: blocking roads, burning tyres, pushing a trash can at the Minister of Justice’s car, throwing a flaming torch at a policeman, and even getting involved in shooting and throwing light bombs at the Prime Minister’s house. (…) “

“We will not allow a violent organization that harms the security of the state and the unity of the people to continue operating under the protection of the law,” (Almog Cohen on X)
MK Almog Cohen considers in his letter to the Ministry of Justice ‘BiA’ to be a violent militia that aims to prevent justicial reforms by any means possible. He, Cohen, sees illegal activities as the main feature of ‘BiA’. Finally, Cohen, demands that ‘BiA’ be banned.
The wider scope and strategic realms are delineated by Martin Sherman (Israel Institute for Strategic Studies): “On paper, Israel is a democracy. The reality is that it is an oligarchy and we are now seeing a return of Brothers in Arms and other groups who want to undermine Israeli democracy and preserve oligarchy by protecting the nucleus of social elite power, namely the judiciary,”
Indeed, the protest against the justicial reform is in consequence an endeavour to keep the left elites of the deep state and the oligarchs in power.
The fight for judicial reform also means to fight for low living costs. The current state structures and laws secure the oligopolies. To change these structures you need justicial reform and reform of the deep state.
Both will in effect block any real reform to lower the costs of living. No wonder that the left mobs have so much funds from the oligarchs and the protection of the deep state elites. It’s about money. Stupid.
