A courageous giant step by Defense Minister Katz (Likud). From now on, the so-called ‘administrative arrest’ will no longer be used against settlers in Judea and Shomron.
Administrative arrest or detention, is widely understood as a procedure that allows the Israeli military to hold terrorists indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. One of the many legitimate and legal tools to fight terrorists, but not Israeli Jewish citizens. Terrorists you fight with tanks, but you do not prosecute your citizens with tanks. Fact.
This instrument was originally intended as a tool against Islamist terrorists. However, the deep state has increasingly used it against Jewish settlers, especially young shepherds.
One can speculate about the reasons and after the war, there will certainly be an investigative commission. Because one thing is foreseeable, we will see fully justified compensation claims.
This decision – to suspend ‘administrative arrest’ against Jewish citizens – is also to be seen as a precursor to the very likely declaration of Israel’s sovereignty over Aza, Judea and Shomron.
In a meeting with ‘Shin Bet’ chief Ronen Bar, Minister Katz informed him of his decision to stop using administrative arrest warrants. The Minister ordered Ronen Bar to make suggestions for alternative tools which do not harm the rights of Jewish citizens.
Minister Katz said, “In a reality where the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria are subject to serious Palestinian terrorist threats, with the support and backing of the Iranian axis of evil that is working to establish an eastern terrorist front against the State of Israel, and where unjustified international sanctions are being taken against settlers and organizations in the settlements – it is not appropriate for the State of Israel to take such a severe step against settlers.“

The Minister stressed that “If there is suspicion that someone committed criminal acts, the perpetrators can be brought to justice, and if not, there are other preventive measures that can be taken other than administrative arrest.” This is OK and how it should be in a democracy.
From a broader perspective, Katz’s step can be regarded as the opening of the dismantling and toppling of the un(-s)elected elites of the deep state who behave as if they are the kings of the state.
One of the driving forces against the administrative arrest was MK (Member of the Knesset) Limor Son HaMelech. She posted: “I called now to congratulate my friend, Defense Minister Israel Katz, on his courageous decision to stop the use of administrative orders against Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria. During the conversation, I heard from him his determination to lead the move to abolish this obscene practice, which infringes on the fundamental rights of the heroic settlement residents.“
Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich said: “I congratulate my friend and partner, Minister of Defense Israel Katz, for his courageous and requested decision to cancel the use of administrative arrest warrants against the settlers of Judea and Samaria. In his decision, Minister Katz abolished long-standing discrimination against the settlers of Judea and Samaria and put an end to the injustice in which the settlers were second-class citizens and draconian and undemocratic measures were used against them that trampled on their rights, measures that were not used against any other population in the State of Israel except terrorists and dangerous enemies. The settlers are law-abiding citizens who oppose any kind of violence or taking the law into their own hands, however, to the extent that there are such illegal phenomena, God forbid, they should be handled by the police and the justice system following the procedures and evidence laws of the criminal law, just like with any other citizen or population.“
Israel is a vibrant democracy, but like all democracies, Israel needs from time to time some deep improvements and reforms. Now Israel needs to dismantle the unelected elites of the deep state and its bureaucracies like in the USA and Argentina. Who will be the Trump and Milei of Israel?
The unhinged bureaucracies of the left deep state must be abolished. There are just three branches of democracy (legislative as primus inter pares, executive and judicative), and not four (deep state). Fact.
It is noteworthy that the political left of Israel is in the camp of the deep state like in Argentina, the USA or Germany. Worldwide we notice a wind of change marked by the reelection of Donald Trump. The match is: ‘We, the People” vs ‘We, the unelected elites of the deep state”.
