A necessary and important step. And many thought it was already forbidden. But no. Displaying the flag of the enemy – the “Palestinian” Authority – will be banned in Israel. One has to ask why it hasn’t been banned long ago.

Netanyahu is a brilliant foreign policy leader, but when it comes to domestic policy he has room to improve. Hesitation and procrastination are wrong domestic policy strategies.
The preliminary reading of the Bill – prohibiting the flag of the enemy state or Palestinian Authority to be raised in institutions budgeted or supported by the state – is approved.
The Bill is sponsored by MK Nissim Vaturi (Likud). In the vote, 47 MKs supported the proposal, versus 10 MKs who opposed it. The bill will now be forwarded to the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee for deliberation.
“The bill proposes that a gathering in bodies budgeted or supported by the state, during which flags of enemy states or flags of the Palestinian Authority are displayed publicly, will be defined as a prohibited assembly.
The explanatory notes to the bill state: “The State of Israel, as a democratic state, allows its citizens to protest on issues in which they disagree with the decisions of the [official] authorities. However, the bill draws a red line between legitimate protest and a protest in which flags are raised of those who do not recognize the State of Israel or pose a danger to its existence, in bodies budgeted or supported by the state. Such raising of flags will be considered a prohibited assembly, which will be treated as a riot, and can be dispersed accordingly.””, said the press release of The Knesset.
