AG Gali Baharav-Miara can contribute to the Release of all Hostages. Will She?

At the moment, political impeachment proceedings are underway against the current Attorney General (AG) Gali Baharav-Miara on the initiative of the Minister for Communications, Shlomo Karhi, as reported on VonNaftali.

Today, the NGO ‘Tikva Forum’, the largest advocacy organization for the hostages, made serious accusations against AG Gali Baharav-Miara. Seen from a different angle, the AG can make a huge contribution to the release of all hostages.

The NGO ‘Tikva Forum’ believes that the court order requiring the elected Prime Minister of Israel to appear in wartime despite immunity and without any urgency (the trial against him is now in its ninth year. He is accused, among other things, of accepting a couple of boxes of cigars as a bribe) is causing great harm to the hostages and jeopardising their release.

Lawyers believe that the court is acting outside of legal norms here. The NGO ‘Tikva Forum’ wrote in its letter today: “Every hour devoted to the legal process comes at the expense of the effort to return the abductees home and harms their chances of rescue“

The ‘Tikva Forum unfolds its IMHO sound, irrefutable and reasonable arguments in the letter said:

“(…) It is unthinkable that while the families of the abductees spend days and nights in existential anxiety – the prime minister, the main person entrusted with their return home, is forced to devote 18 hours a week to testifying in his trial. In today’s complex security reality, when the entire region is trembling under the collapse of Syria, the ongoing instability in Lebanon, the strengthening of Iran and their direct influence on the northern and southern fronts – a prime minister who is 100% focused is required. His attention is not a luxury, it is a necessity. It is not possible that at a time when the Prime Minister is required to make fateful decisions about Israel’s security, the return of the abductees home and the management of the deepening crisis in the Middle East – he will be forced to devote such extensive periods to handling his legal testimony. Every hour devoted to the legal process comes at the expense of the effort to return the abductees home and harms the chances of their rescue. We demand that a way be found to reduce the burden placed on the Prime Minister and allow him to focus on the tasks essential to the security of the state, the lives of the abductees and the peace of the citizens of Israel. The conduct of his testimony as part of the legal process must be carried out in a way that does not harm the fulfilment of his highest duty towards the citizens of the country and the families of the abductees. It’s not just about the families’ cry – it’s about a national and security interest of the first order. It is not possible to continue to behave as if the legal reality is disconnected from the security reality. We call on you to act immediately to rebalance the priorities so that the effort to return the abductees home will be at the top of the priorities of the Prime Minister and the entire country. (…)”

The ‘Tikva Forum’ also advocates a deal for all of them together at one time, in one day. The State of Israel is strong enough to force Hamas to return them all to us.

Minister of Finance Betzalel Smotrich said on X: “Together with all my members in the political and security cabinet we demand to stop the damage to the security of the state and to stop the considerations disconnected from reality that require the Prime Minister to appear as a witness in his trial precisely now and precisely for many days and hours. State security and national resilience are at stake.“

Attorney General (AG) Gali Baharav-Miara can contribute to the release of all hostages; and to the security of the state of Israel. Will she?
