In the coming year, government ministries will provide an additional budget of approximately 10 million NIS to promote sustainable energy in the city, which will be used to accelerate the deployment of charging stations for electric vehicles, establish shading combined with solar energy production, as well as energy efficiency projects, such as replacing old heating and cooling systems with modern, energy-efficient systems. In addition, an innovative centre for producing and storing solar electricity will be established, which will ensure a stable supply of electricity for essential services in the city, even during emergencies, and reduce dependence on the electricity grid.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon: “The city of Jerusalem is experiencing a significant energy transformation. The Energy Master Plan, promoted in cooperation with various government ministries, will help improve the city’s air quality, and provide clean energy solutions for many households as well as public buildings in the city. This is another significant step towards a sustainable future for the Holy City.“
For the first time in Israel, a dedicated budget will be allocated to formulate a plan to deal with the phenomenon of “energy poverty,” which refers to the difficulty of households in meeting the electricity costs required to meet basic energy needs due to economic hardship.
This phenomenon is expressed, among other things, in giving up heating or cooling the home as a result of economic hardship, or limited or unequal access to safer or more efficient sources.
