Technion (Israel) outperformes all European Universities in the Field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) // Technion (Israel) übertrifft alle europäischen Universitäten auf dem Gebiet der Künstlichen Intelligenz (KI)

The renowned ranking of ‘CSRankings: Computer Science Rankings’ once again shows Israel’s leading role in IT, software and precisely Artificial Intelligence (AI).

It is confusing that ‘CSRankings: Computer Science Rankings’ simply attributes the Technion to the European university landscape, which simply does not correspond to the facts. One finds this increasingly in various rankings, that Israel – and in this course also UK and Switzerland – is apparently generously attributed to Europe. This distorts reality, as is repeatedly discussed: EU does not equal to Europe. Fact. And Israel is neither a part of Europe nor of EU. Fact.

One must finally come to the point to differentiate between EU-Europe – which is noticeably more and more clearly beaten off due to its bureaucratic Moloch – and Europe. Europe only gets more reasonably passable ranking positions if Israel, UK and Switzerland are added to the completely different ticking research landscape of the EU, which unfortunately often happens from a US-American perspective. EU and Europe are two different entities. Fact. And to simply attribute Israel to Europe does not seem tenable to me.

The basic objection aside, this ranking is very meaningful, which has been produced since 2016, because it is based on a data-driven very complex metric and evaluates the performance of individual researchers as well and these are then mapped and accessible in a very transparent way.

So if you look at the so-called top 10 “European” universities, you quickly see that university landscape of the EU has a huge problem. Only two EU universities are among the top 10 in terms of artificial intelligence. This can be described as a debacle for the EU, if one puts this in relation to the billions of Euros invested by the EU and the EU states.

As you can see. The top 10 of “European” universities is dominated by Israel with three top ten placements, followed by UK with also three, but not among the top 3 placements, and finally Switzerland with 2 placements among the top 10 or top 3.

Globally, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Here, the Technion is in 17th place, and there is not a single placement from “Europe” in the top 20. Among the top 20, the match between China and the USA is played out with an advantage for China.

Das renommierte Ranking von ‘CSRankings: Computer Science Rankings’ zeigt einmal die führende Rolle Israels in Sachen IT, Software und eben Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Verwirrend ist in der Darstellung, dass ‘CSRankings: Computer Science Rankings’ das Technion einfach mal der europäischen Universitätslandschaft zuschlägt, was schlicht nicht den Tatsachen entspricht.

Man findet dies zunehmend in verschiedenen Rankings, dass Israel – und in diesem Zuge auch UK und Schweiz – scheinbar großzügig Europa zugerechnet wird.

Man muss endlich dahin kommen, zwischen EU-Europa – das merklich aufgrund seines bürokratischen Molochs immer deutlicher abgeschlagen wird – und Europa zu differenzieren. Europa erhält nur noch mehr einigermaßen passable Rankingpositionen, wenn Israel, UK und die Schweiz der völlig anders tickenden Forschungslandschaft der EU zugeschlagen werden, was leider oft aus US-amerikanischer Perspektive geschieht. EU und Europa sind zwei verschiedene Entitäten. Fakt. Und einfach Israel mal so Europa zuzuschlagen, erscheint mir nicht haltbar.

Von dem grundsätzlichen Einwand abgesehen, ist dieses Ranking sehr aussagekräftig, welches seit 2016 erstellt wird, da es auf einer datengetriebenen sehr komplexen Metrik beruht und die Leistung der einzelnen Forscher mit evaluiert und diese dann sehr transparent abgebildet werden und zugänglich sind.

Sieht man sich also die sogenannten Top 10 der “europäischen” Universitäten an, dann sieht man rasch, dass universitäre Landschaft der EU ein Riesenproblem hat. Lediglich zwei EU-Universitäten finden sich unter den Top 10 in Sachen Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI). Man darf dies als Debakel für die EU bezeichnen, setzt man dies in Relation zu Milliarden an Euros, die von der EU und den EU-Staaten eingesetzt werden.

Wie man sieht. Die Top 10 der “europäischen” Universitäten wird von Israel mit drei Top Ten Platzierungen dominiert, gefolgt von UK mit ebenfalls drei, aber nicht unter den Top 3 Platzierungen, und schließlich die Schweiz mit 2 Platzierungen unter den Top 10 bzw Top 3.

Global ist noch sehr viel Luft nach oben. Hier findet sich das Technion auf Platz 17. Unter den Top 20 findet sich keine Einzige Platzierung mehr aus “Europa”.

Unter den Top 20 wird das Match zwischen China und den USA ausgetragen mit Vorteil China.
