Israel Earth Prize by TOYOTA: NIS 1 Million, 5 Years for 5 Initiatives

ISRAEL EARTH PRIZE by Union & Toyota aims to promote environmental policy and entrepreneurship in Israel. TOYOTA says in the press release abut mission&vision of this award: “It is our belief that the challenges facing the field of environmental sustainability present opportunities for a better world and a healthier society

 Driving our world to a sustainable, greener future, brings with it a great opportunity to create a better future. As part of our ‘Going Beyond Zero’ approach we encourage organizations, communities and individuals to join us and win our support.”

The award is awesome: One million NIS a year for 5 years will be awarded to 5 initiatives. That’s huge. Eligible to apply are ‘organizations’ like start-ups, NGOs (Non-governmental organizations), entrepreneurs and initiatives.

For start-ups there is a economic restriction: “(…) must not have exceeded 24 million NIS in total revenue since business inception and have no more than 30 employees, of which at least 50% of them are employed in Israel in the activity that the initiative in the entry applies to.”

The themes, the environmental areas an ‘organization’ can apply are: Carbon Reduction, Nature assets conservation, New environmental mobility initiatives, Climate change adaptation, Circular economy, Urban sustainability, Sustainable fashion and Sustainable food.

The committee for the ISRAEL EARTH PRIZE is both scientific and business-orientated: Prof. Ofira Ayalon (University of Haifa ), Prof. Vered Blass (Tel Aviv University), Mohammed Alnabari, mayor of the Negev Bedouin township of Hura; Ron Gonen of New York-based investment firm Closed Loop Partners; social business entrepreneur Hana Rado; and PICO Venture Partners managing partner Elie Wurtman.

The award will be announced in March 2023.
