The Ministry of Energy selects Bar-Ilan and the Technion to launch a national institute to develop groundbreaking technologies for the storage and conservation of energy. An additional proof that the new right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu is not that warmongering fascist freak as lefty European parties and NGOs smears the democratically elected government.
he aim of the institute is to encourage Israel’s energy sector to take a leap forward in response to the national strategic changes, with an eye toward global applications, as well as to train cadres of future experts in the field and facilitate the transfer of innovative technologies from the academic environment to industry, says the press release.
The institute will be established with a budget of NIS 130 million for five years, of which the Ministry of Energy will invest NIS 100 million and the winning institutions have pledge to invest the remaining NIS 30 million. The Ministry’s investment will enable the purchase of expensive research infrastructure and the establishment of new laboratories.
The way to reach this goal is through a transition to renewable energy sources, such as the sun and wind. Energy production from these sources isn’t steady, but fluctuates through the day. Therefore, development of novel technologies for storing energy in large quantities is required. This will be one of the main tasks of the new institute.
The institute will engage in research in the following areas: sodium-ion batteries, fuel cell performance improvement, producing and storing green hydrogen, and more.
Prof. Doron Aurbach from the Chemistry Department at Bar-Ilan and Prof. Yoed Tsur from the Technion will head the institute. The scientific steering team will be headed by Ministry of Energy Chief Scientist Dr. Gideon Friedman and will include Prof. Yair Ein-Eli from the Technion, Prof. Malachi Noked and Prof. Lior Elbaz, from Bar-Ilan’s Department of Chemistry and Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials.

Ein weiterer Beweis dafür, dass die neue rechtsgerichtete Regierung von Benjamin Netanjahu kein kriegstreibender faschistischer Freak ist, wie linke europäische Parteien und NGOs gegen die demokratisch gewählte Regierung hetzen.
Ziel des Instituts ist es, den israelischen Energiesektor zu ermutigen, als Reaktion auf die nationalen strategischen Veränderungen einen Sprung nach vorne zu machen, mit Blick auf globale Anwendungen, sowie einen Kader zukünftiger Experten auf diesem Gebiet auszubilden und den Transfer innovativer Technologien vom akademischen Umfeld zur zur Industrie zu erleichtern, heißt es in der Pressemitteilung.
Das Institut wird mit einem Budget von 130 Millionen NIS für fünf Jahre ausgestattet, wovon das Energieministerium 100 Millionen NIS investieren wird. Die beiden Univers haben sich verpflichtet, weitere 30 Millionen NIS zu investieren. Die Investition des Ministeriums wird den Kauf teurer Forschungsinfrastruktur und die Einrichtung neuer Labors ermöglichen.
Der Weg dorthin führt über den Umstieg auf erneuerbare Energiequellen wie Sonne und Wind. Die Energieproduktion aus diesen Quellen ist nicht konstant, sondern schwankt im Laufe des Tages. Daher ist die Entwicklung neuartiger Technologien zur Speicherung von Energie in großen Mengen erforderlich. Dies wird eine der Hauptaufgaben des neuen Instituts sein.
Das Institut wird in folgenden Bereichen forschen: Natrium-Ionen-Batterien, Leistungssteigerung von Brennstoffzellen, Erzeugung und Speicherung von grünem Wasserstoff und mehr.
