Israel’s First Business TV Channel: Channel 10

Today the first TV channel for business news in Israel went on air: Channel 10.

I love to congratulate them and hope that other, more independent media will follow. As this blog has often pointed out, there is much room for improvement. Anyway. Media diversity, free speech and freedom of opinion are always good per se.

What does the new channel promise, and what is its mission? You can read more about it on the website: “Starting today and every day, we will broadcast to you the best news, information and updates on the Israeli economy • The channel will broadcast on Channel 10 on the major broadcasting platforms on all business days in Israel“

The channel will broadcast on Channel 10 on the major broadcasting platforms – yes, HOT (+yes and +STING), Cellcom and Partner. It will be the first business channel in Israel to broadcast live 24 hours a day on all business days in the country. In the first phase, it will be 17 hours daily. Fair enough.

Channel editor Eran Bar-Tal formulated the mission, vision and claim: “After a deep research process and the formulation of serious, professional, and in-depth economic content, the time has come to realize and go on the air. During the trial broadcasts, we will bring up-to-date knowledge from leading economists in the world’s leading media outlets and investment houses, complete the construction of advanced information systems that will present current data to the viewer in an accessible, convenient, and reliable manner, and run the cutting-edge equipment designed to present a modern broadcasting platform, which is intended to be the dashboard for professionals and investors during all hours of trading in the markets and in fact, at all hours of the day“

It is too early to say if the claim will be delivered. But I would like to give this medium some advance praise. Starting an entire TV channel in such difficult times demands respect and recognition.

For sure, the website is slightly chaotic, the ‘outbrain’ cooperation is a little bit overdone and is not sharply focused on the target group (investors, professionals). The rest of the website is classy in content but as said overloaded. The idea of a dashboard is smart but not yet realized.

The opinion section of the website is not very broad. However, we now know the opinion of the editor Eran Bar Tal. They should have attracted a bunch of commentators at the start.

The tone of the articles is rather sober, which is good, but I’m missing some deeper diving. Info boxes would be desirable to fulfil the claim of being a dashboard for business information. Finally, one should expect sources to be cited in articles.

Last, but not least: a menu item where you can learn more about the company ‘Channel 10’ will be awesome. Keyword transparency: owner, imprint, editorial staff and an introduction of the editorial staff and their qualifications. A corner for the press releases and media kit of the company will be brilliant.

I’m currently watching the discussion “The stock market exceeded forecasts”. As usual, I stopped listening after 5 minutes. I am for sure not the only one. Reason: everyone is shouting at each other at the same time. A fundamental weakness in Israeli TV. There is room for some innovation. No businessman or investor is interested in shouting matches.

But these are small details and should not obscure the bigger picture. Israel now has its first TV channel for business which is always good, important and right. With that in mind, a lot of success for this awesome start.

Let me conclude with the claim of the new channel as documented on its X account which I can only support: “We believe in growth, innovation, entrepreneurship and competition in all fields and see ourselves as partners in building Israel as the strongest economy in the world.” Excellent. Go for it.
