Esports, das erste Gaming-Turnier im Geiste des Abraham-Abkommens wird vom 26. bis 28. Januar 2023 in Tel Aviv stattfinden. Dort werden zahlreiche Teilnehmer aus Israel, dem gesamten Nahen Osten und aus den USA erwartet, einschließlich führender Spieler.
Die Veranstaltung findet in der „Shlomo Group“ Arena in Tel Aviv statt und wird Tausende von Zuschauern aus dem ganzen Land anziehen, die neben dem Turnier zusätzlich ein offenes Gaming-Festival genießen können, das parallel zum Wettbewerb stattfindet und es dem Publikum ermöglicht, miteinander in Kontakt zu treten.
Esports Peace Games ist, wie man vermuten darf, eine digitale Videospiel-Meisterschaft, bei der Nationalmannschaften aus Ländern der Region um die weltweit führenden Esports-Wettbewerbstitel kämpfen werden.
An der Veranstaltung nehmen unter anderem Teilnehmer aus Israel, den Vereinigten Staaten, MENA-Ländern wie den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten, Bahrain und Marokko teil. Unter den Gewinnern wird ein Preisgeld von 82.000 US-Dollar ausgeschüttet.
Esports ist Ausdruck eines weiterhin wachsenden globalen Phänomens, das laut Branchenstatistiken weltweit ein Publikum von bis zu 400 Millionen Menschen anzieht. Die Spieler der Esports treten entweder einzeln oder als Teams gegeneinander an, wobei den Siegern der Wettbewerbe Preise mit hohem Einsatz winken und auch die namhaften Sponsoren weltweite Aufmerksamkeit erregen werden.
Das Organisationskomitee steht unter dem gemeinsamen Vorsitz des israelisch-jüdischen Philanthropen Sylvan Adams und des US-Botschafters in Israel, S.E. Thomas Nides, sowie hochrangigen Vertretern des israelischen Außenministeriums.
Die Veranstaltung wird ebenso vom Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem unterstützt, das sich insbesondere im Rahmen des Abraham-Abkommens für die Förderung der Werte von Toleranz und dem Zusammenleben zwischen Juden, Muslimen und Christen einsetzt.
Der Co-Vorsitzende der Spiele, US-Botschafter in Israel S.E. Thomas R. Nides, betont die herausragende Rolle dieser erstmalig stattfindenden Esports:
„Die Abraham-Abkommen sind entscheidend für die Stabilität und den Wohlstand der Region.“ Ein äußerst wichtiger Faktor sei der Aufbau von Beziehungen zwischen den Menschen, so Nides weiter: „… je mehr Menschen einander verstehen, desto einfacher ist es, Probleme zu lösen. Vor allem bei jungen Leuten. Dieses Esports-Turnier – das erste seiner Art – ist eine von vielen gemeinsamen kulturellen Aktivitäten, die rund um die Abkommen organisiert werden, um die Jugend der Region verbinden und sicherzustellen, dass die Abkommen substanziell sind.“

Herr Sylvan Adams, Co-Vorsitzender der Esports Peace Games zeigt sich von deren Bedeutsamkeit überzeugt: „Die Abraham-Abkommen verändern die Spielregeln für unsere Region, da unsere neuen diplomatischen Beziehungen den Geschäfts-, Bildungs- und Wissenschaftsaustausch fördern. Aber damit dies von Dauer ist, um einen warmen Frieden zu weben, den wir alle in der Region suchen, brauchen wir einen Austausch von Mensch zu Mensch – sportlich, kulturell und vor allem im Tourismussektor mit unseren Nachbarn. … Esports führt eine ganz neue Qualität nach Israel.
