Jewish National Fund-USA: A New North for Israel

“At Jewish National Fund-USA’s Global Conference for Israel, close to 3,000 attendees were invited to “Join the Journey” toward The Emergence of a New North. A sweeping vision of rebirth, resilience, and reimagining unfolding across northern Israel.

The session brought together Israeli leaders, innovators, and visionaries who are transforming war-scarred communities in Israel’s North through Jewish National Fund-USA”, said the press release of JNF-USA.

Yes, it is absolutely necessary, not only because the North and the South were always neglected by Jerusalem at the expense of Central Israel, but finally because of the war: About 100,000 Israeli citizens were preemptively expelled from the border areas close to Lebanon and Syria.

Devastating for the infrastructure, businesses, health and school systems—in short, negative for all aspects of life. And the bureaucracy does not restrain itself. Jewish National Fund-USA Ambassador Dr. Orlee Panitch described the vision for the North, whose landscape resembles the famous Tuscany.

The Jewish National Fund-USA seeks to attract 300,000 new residents through strategic investments in housing, infrastructure, economic development, and more. That’s huge and ambitious. The main challenges in Israel are affordable housing and lowering the cost of living.

And there are a lot of initiatives out there in the North. As examples (pars pro toto), some may be presented. Michal Shiloah Galnoor, CEO of Western Galilee Now, shared with the participants how the organization helps sustain small businesses through its Online Mitzvah Marketplace initiative. Awesome.

Another example: Steve Dabrow, Chair of the Galilee Culinary Institute by JNF (GCI by JNF), painted a vivid picture of what he called “the future of food and the future of the Galilee. (…) This land is a crossroads of 82 cultures,” Dabrow said. “It’s time to put it on the global map next to Tuscany, Napa, and Bordeaux.” A long and laudable way.

Finally, I want to hint at the initiative “Institute of Disruptive Philosophy, Kabbalah and Science” (in formation) in Tzfat. Although not a project of the JNF, who knows. The Institute seeks to establish itself as a disruptive, innovative, and creative hub for Kabbalistic and philosophical “Artificial Intelligence” and “Quantum Science.” Exactly what international companies are looking for in Israel: unconventional innovation.

“We have a blueprint for the future of the Galilee—but a blueprint is only the beginning,” he said. “If you will it, you still have to fund it. We need early adopters—people who will visit, learn, and taste what’s growing in the North,” concluded Steve Dabrow.
