Jährlich erstellt das New Yorker Research-Unternehmen CB Insights die Liste der vielversprechendsten Startups in Sachen Artificial Intelligence (AI). Die Ergebnisse werden von Medien wie Financial Times, Bloomberg oder New York Times ernst genommen und rezipiert. In diesem Ranking stehen alle genannten Unternehmen auf dem Siegertreppchen, denn sie gehören zu den Top 100 der vielversprechendsten Startups der Welt.
Aus Blick von EU-Europa ist dieses Ranking der Top 100 Startups im Bereich Artificial INtelligence (AI) ein einziges Trauerspiel und Debakel. Die Ergebnisse sind für EU-Europa wenig überraschend einfach nur als niederschmetternd zu bezeichnen. Da gibt es nichts mehr zum beschönigen. Der Einbruch und der Nachholbedarf für EU-Europa werden im Jahr 2022 wahrscheinlich wohl noch dramatischer ausfallen.
Nach Darstellung von CB Insights wurden aus rund 6.000 Unternehmen, die Top 100 Startups im Bereich Artificial Intelligence ausgewählt. Ohne Zweifel ein Segment mit sehr hoher Relevanz. Aus den 6.000 Startups wurde mit klassischen Faktoren wie F&E-Aktivität, allgemeine Geschäftsbeziehungen zu Großunternehmen, das Investorenprofil, das Marktpotenzial, die allgemeine Wettbewerbslandschaft, Teamstärke und beispielsweise die Qualität der technologischen Innovation, um einige Faktoren zu nennen, 100 Top-Startups herausgefiltert.
Die Top 3: USA, Großbritannien und Israel ex aequo
Dominiert wird das Feld eindeutig von US-Unternehmen, die mit 65 Startups vertreten sind. Auf Platz 2 finden sich ex aequo mit jeweils neun Startups Großbritannien (UK) und Israel.
Der gesamte EU-Raum kommt gerade mal auf sechs Nominierungen unter den Top 100. Mit fremden Federn schmücken geht nicht mehr, nachdem man UK aus der EU rausgedrängelt hat mit einer verfehlten von Deutschland geführten EU-Flüchtligspolitik und einer galoppierenden Bürokratisierung, die alles in EU-Europa erdrückt, besonders in Deutschland, wie man aktuell anhand der Pandemie studieren kann.
EU-Europa mit seinen rund 450 Millionen Einwohnern und sich gerne selbst bei jeder Gelegenheit als der größte Binnenmarkt bezeichned, ist politisch, militärisch und in Sachen Innovation ein Leichtgewicht. Ein schwindendes Licht.
Es nimmt wenig Wunder, dass Deutschland und EU-Europa völlig versagen, hingegen Staaten wie die USA, UK oder eben Israel bei Rankings, wo es um Innovation geht, stets verlässlich dominieren. Pandemie, echte Krisen oder Innovation. Dort wo es um die wirkliche, die echte Welt geht, wird EU-Euopa seit Jahrzehnten abgehängt und kümmert sich lieber um Gendersternchen und überlegt neue Verbote.
Nach EU-Staaten sieht es im Detail folgend aus:

Israel kann mit gerade mal rund 10 Millionen Einwohnern mit neun vielversprechenden Startups in dieser Top 100 Liste aufschlagen. Neun! Da braucht es keine großen Worte mehr. Die EU-Politik führt zu einem innovationsfeindlichen Klima, die von Israel zu innovationsfreundlichen Rahmenbedingungen. Fakt. Ist einfach so.
Die Top 100 Startups aus Israel und wie Glocalist Lesern größtenteils bekannt sind: Beewise, DeCi AI, Percepto, Prospera, Run:AI, Snyk, Syte, Theator und Wint. Glocalist hat also die Hälfte (55%) der neun israelischen Startups, die in den Top 100 sind, auf dem Radar. Ohne große Researchunit wie manche staatsnahe Stiftung oder Nachrichtendienste hier in Europa.
EU-Europa versumpert im Antisemitisus und Israelhass
Mit dieser Performance wird sich EU-Europa nicht mehr lange als global player halten, denn wer Innovation derart verpennt und auch nicht die Ressourcen im eigenen politischen udn wirtschaftlichen Raum erkennt, dessen gesamte Zukunft ist mehr als trübe, ja ist in Frage gestellt.
EU-Europa und seine Staaten müssen den Bürokratismus und Parteibuch- und Amigowirtschaft in einer sehr großen Kraftanstrengungen rasch niederreißen. Anders wird es nicht. Denn die Köpfe, die Unternehmen sind da, aber wahnwitzige Gesetze, Verordnungen und investitionsfeindliche Rahmenbedingungen versperren den Weg zum Erfolg. Ihre Hauswarte sind die Politbürokraten, die darüber wachen nur ja keine Innovation zuzulassen. Sie sind der natürliche Feind jeder Reform.
Da nützen auch keine Förderungen mehr, egal wie hoch, denn sie gehen zu einem vorranging an die “Amigonetzwerke” etablierter Unternehmen, die selber kaum mehr innovativ sind, und zum anderen versperren diese Förderungen den Weg zu lebendigen Risiko- und Wagniskapital-Ecosystemen.
Irgendwelche parastaatlichen vom Staat bzw staatsnahen Stiftungen finanzierten Plattformen, die da israelische Startups und deutschen Mittelstand zusammenbringen wollen, sind da schon vom Start weg auf verlorenen Positionen und eher fast schon hinderlich.
Relevanz – vor allem in Anbetracht der eingesetzten Mittel – haben sie nach meinem Dafürhalten keine. Sie gleichen mehr politischen Paarläufen verschiedener staatlicher und staatsnaher Verbände, die sich so wechselseitig ihre Relevanz bestätigen und versuchen eher privatwirtschaftliche, unabhägige Player im Stillen auszugrenzen.
Freilich mit dem Unterschied, dass die israelischen Verbände tatsächlich eine Relevanz haben da draußen in der wirklichen Welt. Auf der europäischen Seite handelt es sich doch eher um die berühmten Potemkinschen Dörfer, die sich selber auf Staatskosten bespiegeln und Relevanz simulieren.
EU-Europa sollte sich mit politischer “Kritik” und Obstruktion gegenüber Israel zurückhalten, ja am besten aufgeben, und endlich einen Weg finden mit Israel zu kooperieren und von Israel zu lernen.
Das geht freilich mit Antisemitismus im Rucksack, Hetze gegen Israel in den multilateralen Foren der Welt wie beispielsweise der UN, Unterstützung der islamistischen Diktatur Irans und halbherziges Vorgehen gegen die antisemitischen BDS nicht, die ja ausdrücklich Israel wirtschaftlich schaden will. Halbherzige Lippenbekenntnisse von europäschen Unternehmen und Politik beispielsweise gegen die BDS werden zunehmend wahrgenommen und zurecht als das erkannt was sie sind: Lippenbekenntnisse und Sonntagsreden.
Diese Lippenbekenntnisse und Sonntagsreden oder gar vollständige Ausblendung nimmt man mehr und mehr in Israels Wirtschaftskreisen wahr. Man kann verstehen, dass man auf Seiten israelischer Unternehmen nicht nachgerade seine Chancen in EU-Europa sucht. Antisemitismus und Hass gegen Israel schaden der EU-europäischen Wirtschaft…und Demokratie. Fakt.

Every year, the New York-based research company CB Insights compiles a list of the most promising startups in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The results are taken seriously and received by media such as the Financial Times, Bloomberg or the New York Times. In this ranking, all the companies mentioned are on the winner’s podium, as they are among the top 100 most promising startups in the world.
From the point of view of EU-Europe, this ranking of the top 100 startups in the field of Artificial INtelligence (AI) is a single tragedy and debacle. Unsurprisingly for EU-Europe, the results can only be described as devastating. There is nothing left to gloss over. The slump and the need for EU Europe to catch up will probably be even more dramatic in 2022.
According to CB Insights, the top 100 startups in the field of Artificial Intelligence were selected from around 6,000 companies. Without a doubt, this is a segment with very high relevance. From the 6,000 startups, 100 top startups were filtered out using classic factors such as R&D activity, general business relationships with large companies, investor profile, market potential, general competitive landscape, team strength and, for example, the quality of technological innovation, to name a few factors.
The top three: U.S., U.K. and Israel ex aequo
The field is clearly dominated by U.S. companies, which are represented by 65 startups. In second place, ex auquo, are Great Britain (UK) and Israel with nine startups each.
The entire EU area has just six nominations among the top 100. It is no longer possible to adorn oneself with foreign feathers after the UK has been forced out of the EU with a misguided EU refugee policy led by Germany and a galloping bureaucratization that is crushing everything in EU Europe, especially in Germany, as can currently be studied with the pandemic.
EU-Europe, with its population of around 450 million and which likes to call itself the largest single market at every opportunity, is a lightweight politically, militarily and in terms of innovation. A fading light.
It is hardly surprising that Germany and EU-Europe fail completely, while countries like the USA, UK or Israel always reliably dominate rankings where innovation is concerned. Pandemics, real crises or innovation. When it comes to the real world, EU-Europe has been left behind for decades and prefers to take care of gender stars and think about new bans.

Israel, with a population of just around 10 million, can boast nine promising startups in this top 100 list. Nine! There is no need for any more big words. EU policy leads to a climate that is hostile to innovation, while Israel’s leads to innovation-friendly conditions. Fact. It’s just the way it is.
The top 100 startups from Israel and as largely known to Glocalist readers are: Beewise, DeCi AI, Percepto, Prospera, Run:AI, Snyk, Syte, Theator and Wint. So Glocalist has half (55%) of the nine Israeli startups that are in the top 100 on its radar. Without a big research unit like some government-related foundations or intelligence agencies here in Europe.
EU-Europe bogs down in anti-Semitism and Israel-hatred
With this performance, EU-Europe will not remain a global player for much longer, because whoever misses innovation in such a way and does not recognize the resources in their own political and economic space, their entire future is more than bleak, indeed it is in question.
EU-Europe and its states have to tear down the bureaucracy and party-book- and amigo-economy in a very big effort. It will not be otherwise. Because the brains, the companies are there, but insane laws, regulations and investment-hostile framework conditions block the way to success. Their janitors are the political bureaucrats who watch over the fact that no innovation is allowed. They are the natural enemy of every reform.
No subsidies, no matter how high, are of any use here, because on the one hand they go primarily to the “amigonetworks” of established companies, which themselves are hardly innovative any more, and on the other hand these subsidies block the way to lively risk and venture capital ecosystems.
Any parastatal platforms financed by the state or state-affiliated foundations that want to bring together Israeli startups and German SMEs are in a lost position right from the start and are almost a hindrance.
In my opinion, they have no relevance – especially in view of the funds used. They are more like political pair runs of various state and state-related associations, which thus mutually confirm their relevance and try to silently exclude rather private-sector, independent players.
The difference, of course, is that the Israeli associations actually have relevance out there in the real world. On the European side, it is more a matter of the famous Potemkin villages, which mirror themselves at state expense and simulate relevance.
EU-Europe should refrain from political “criticism” and obstruction towards Israel, or even give up, and finally find a way to cooperate with Israel and learn from Israel.
Of course, this is not possible with anti-Semitism in the backpack, agitation against Israel in the multilateral forums of the world such as the UN, support for the Islamist dictatorship of Iran and half-hearted action against the anti-Semitic BDS, which explicitly wants to harm Israel economically. Half-hearted lip service by European companies and politicians against BDS, for example, is increasingly being perceived and rightly recognized for what it is: Lip service and Sunday speeches.
This lip service and Sunday speeches or even complete fading out is perceived more and more in Israel’s business circles. One can understand that on the side of Israeli companies one does not look for their chances in EU-Europe. Anti-Semitism and hatred against Israel harm the EU-European economy…and democracy. Fact.
