Oman authorized that Israeli Air lines can fly to and over Oman. The now open airspace shortens the flight time to India about two to three hours. A win-win situation for everybody: Passangers, business and climate.
Another step of success of the Abraham Accords once brokered by US-President Donald Trump and former and sitting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And again: The Markets trust Israel.
Prime Minster Netanyahu said: “The Far East is not so far away and the skies are no longer the limit.
This is a day of great news for Israeli aviation. Israel has, in effect, become the main transit point between Asia and Europe.
We have worked to open the airspace, first over Saudi Arabia, and from 2018 when I visited Oman, to add Oman as well so that we can fly directly to India and on to Australia.
This was achieved today, after considerable effort, including in recent months. Here is good news – Israel is opening up to the east on an unprecedented scale.“
Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) wrote on Twitter: “Enforcing international and local requirements against discrimination in dealing with civilian aircraft, the Civil Aviation Authority confirms that the sultanate’s airspace is open to all carriers that meet the requirements of overflying.“
After boosting the port of Haifa another stepstone is taken to make Israel to a major logistic hub for East-West. However, a lot of homework has to be done, like improvement of the infrastructure (web, streets) and a massive de-bureaucratization, the real and most dramatic obstacle for the progress of Israel.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen: “This is a historic decision that will shorten the flying time to Asia, lower costs for Israeli citizens and help Israeli airlines to be more competitive. I thank the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik, and our American friends for their substantial help in the success of the move.“
