Land Robbery by Palestinian Authority – A Threat to Israeli Economy, Investment&Statehood

As reported for many times on VonNaftali, the Palestinian Authorities is steeling land of State of Israel in Zone C and beyond like the Negev. The Israeli NGO ‘Regavim‘ is speaking of ‘Steeling the Negev‘ by so-called Beduins.

Regavim‘ wrote in its report ‘The Vanishing Negev‘: “The structures of the illegal encampments, home to 82,000 Bedouin (comprising less than 1% of the total population of the State of Israel), are spread across some 2,00 cluster that cover nearly 600,000 dunams (600 square kilometers). By way of comparison, the remaining 99% of Israel’s population populates an area of some 940 square kilometers (the total built-up area, including residential, commercial, industrial, trade and office structures). The area of the illegal squatters’ camps is 11.5 times greater than the area of Tel Aviv, where some 460,000 people live.”

A lot of left-wing commentators are concerned with the negative effects of a reform within the justice system, but more concern should be given to the continued insecurity and land robbery planned and realized by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and still not adequately addressed by the State of Israel.

This lawlessness is a severe threat not only for the security, but for the economy, means for any investor. Any investor will think twice to establish a company near the Negev or South of Tel Aviv or in Judea and Shomron when his investment is threatend by land robbery and protection racket.

The civil society organization ‘Mavakal Kol Dunam‘ (Forum for Every Dunam) is recently documenting the stealing the ‘Yehoshua Altar’ at Mount Ebal. ‘Mavakal Kol Dunam‘ obtained official PA documents showing PA’s plan to build on top of historic Biblical site, taking it over and by that destroying it.

The NGO wrote on Twitter (12.1.2023): “Tonight we revealed for the first time the dangerous plan of the Palestinian Authority – to destroy the Yehoshua Altar site on Mount Ibal and build a residential neighborhood on it.”

After an inspection, Mavakal Kol Dunam discovered that the Palestinian Authority is promoting a construction plan on Mount Ebal, right on the site of the site of the Joshua Altar – a 3,500-year-old archaeological site, and a first-class national site.

The plan is divided obviously into two phases: Phase 1, which includes the entire altar site and contains about 30 residential lots and a road that will pass through the neighbourhood. and a public area for the benefit of the residents who will live there. The altar itself is in the public area – which will be in the heart of an Arab neighborhood, but the neighbourhood will be built on the waves of ancient stones on the site and the wall of the ‘surround’.

Phase 2 goes down from the altar to Nablus and to the east and includes about 12 lots and connects to an asphalt road that was paved several years ago. 3. It is difficult to exaggerate the strategic importance of Mount Ebal – the highest mountain in Samaria, where the IDF does maintain a base at the top of the mountain.

The Palestinian Authority’s efforts to conquer Mount Ebal accelerated, with the climax being the construction of a wide road that passes right next to the altar that connects the town of Azira on the northern slopes of Mount Ebal with the city of Nablus, allowing quick access to construction and Arab takeover of Mount Ebal, stated the NGO ‘Mavakal Kol Dunam‘ .

The construction of the road was widely publicized when documentation was published of the contractor boasting that he had torn the stones from the wall that surrounded the historic archaeological site, despite promises from all political levels that the historic site would be preserved – in fact nothing was done.

Arutz Sheva summarized recently: “Official Palestinian Authority documents reveal a plan to build dozens of properties on the ruins of the Yehoshua Altar and completely obliterate what remains of the historic site.”

And the NGO ‘Regavim‘ said on Twitter: “A Palestinian plan seeks to build a luxury neighbourhood in area of Joshua’s altar on Mount Ebal, causing further damage to one of the most important Jewish & int’l heritage sites in Israel. The Israeli gov’t must prevent any damage to the site – through action, not words!”
