The Fight For Democracy and Freedom in Israel

As has been written many times in this blog, the left-wing, unelected elites of the deep state currently rule. The deep states are staging coups against elected right-wing governments around the world. This can currently be seen very clearly in the US and Israel.

Democracy and freedom are seriously threatened by the left-wing, unelected elites of the deep state. They are supported, even incited, by a well-funded, violent left-wing mob, NGOs, and compliant media.

Now, the Netanyahu cabinet also seems to have recognized the seriousness of the situation. They are attempting to reclaim the sovereignty of the people. Although very weak and half-hearted, it is at least a first step. As usual, the words outweigh the results.

PM Netanyahu posted minutes ago on X: “In America and Israel, when a strong right-wing leader wins an election, the Deep State in the service of the left perverts the justice system to thwart the will of the people. They will not win in either Israel or America. We stand strong together.”

Unfortunately, Prime Minister Netanyahu is demonstrating very weak leadership. While his analysis is often brilliant and his speeches touch the heart, his actions and implementation are weak. As it is now, too.

And so it happened as it had to in today’s second and third readings in the committee on amending the appointment of supreme judges. A very weak performance, and the left can be glad to have gotten off so lightly. Breaking the power of the deep state will be the task of the next right-wing government.

The Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, chaired by MK Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism), convened today, Wednesday (19.03.2025) and voted to approve in the second and third readings the proposed amendment to Basic Law: The Judiciary (Amendment No. 3) dealing with the composition of the Judges Selection Committee, and the complementary Courts Bill (Amendment No. 101), 2023, both of which were sponsored by the committee.

This is after the committee voted down all 71,369 reservations that were submitted. The vote to approve the bills passed by a majority of 8 to 5 MKs, said the press release of the Knesset Committee for Constitution, Law and Justice.

The plan proposes that the Judges Selection Committee will have nine members—the Supreme Court President and two Supreme Court justices, who will be chosen by the court’s justices; the Minister of Justice (who will chair the committee) and another minister to be chosen by the Government; two Members of Knesset who will be chosen by the coalition and the opposition, respectively; and two public representatives who will be attorneys qualified to serve as Supreme Court justices (experience of at least 10 years as an attorney), to be chosen by the coalition and the opposition.

The plan proposes further that a majority of five from nine will be required to appoint judges for all instances. In the lower instances, a majority will be required that includes at least one member chosen by the coalition, one chosen by the opposition and one judge. For Supreme Court justices, a majority will be required that includes one member chosen by the coalition and one chosen by the opposition.”(quote of the press release of the Committee for Constitution, Law and Justice of the Knesset)

The law will come into effect for the next elected government. In short: We have a reform of weakness and hesitation.

Let us hope that the government and the Knesset will show at least some strength and dismiss tomorrow the head of Shin Bet and the coming Sunday the AG.

“Madam politician, you continue to get confused. Where else do you want to drag the institution you head down to in order to thwart the government? — You don’t determine, you recommend. You have a serious conflict of interest as a result of the impeachment proceedings we have initiated against you. Your opinion is not law. The government is the one who runs the country, in the name of the people and for the people, not bureaucrats. On Sunday, we will begin to correct this democratic failure and send you home,” posted Minister Shlomo Kahir on X. I believe it if I see it.

The fact is, Israel’s leadership must learn from Trump. At the moment our elected leaders are too hesitant, cowardly and weak. Too many big words and announcements, almost no deeds and action. This must change.

I’m not convinced about the seriousness and commitment of the right-wing elites to empower the people. However, for the days of the war, I stand by my piece of opinion published days before. Today! To Be in the Camp of Democracy is to Be with Bibi
