The bomb detonation in northern Israel this Monday, March 13, seriously injured an Israeli (Shareef ad-Din, 21, from the Arab village of Salem). The Islamist terrorist infiltrated Israel from Lebanon and planted a bomb on eastbound Route 65 near the Megiddo junction. The IDF has just released more details to the public.
This dramatic new security situation eventually prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end his visit to Germany early this week. The planned reform of the judiciary is also mentioned as a reason for the early demolition. Both reasons are likely to be correct.
The IDF states in its press release: “During the raids and roadblocks, a vehicle was stopped in the Moshav Yaara area (Route 899). During the arrest of the vehicle, the armed terrorist posed a threat to the Shin Bet and IDF forces, which neutralized and killed him.
Weapons, a ready-to-use explosive belt and other items were found in the terrorist’s possession. It is estimated that neutralizing the terrorist prevented another attack.
A preliminary investigation shows the terrorist appeared to have crossed Lebanese territory into Israel earlier this week. It also turned out that after the attack near the Megiddo intersection, the terrorist stopped a car and asked the driver to drive it north.
The attack is the subject of a broad investigation, which will also look into the involvement of the terrorist organization Hezbollah.”
