58% of “east” Jerusalem teachers from “Palestinian” Authority institutions. A bizarre debate in the Knesset Commission

Basically, this is the result of a wrong development that must now be corrected quickly. Jerusalem is the undivided capital of Israel. East Jerusalem must be fully integrated as a part of the State of Israel. That is the solution. There is no “Palestinian” Jerusalem. This story is closed.

This means that there is no longer any apparent reason to employ teachers from the anti-Semitic and anti-democratic organization “PA”. This insanity must end. This is the only acceptable solution.

If the Arab residents who identify with the anti-Semitic and anti-democratic ideology of “Palestinianism” feel uncomfortable, well, then they are welcome to emigrate to Syria or Jordan.

Everyone else who was born here and grows up in Israel will do so in the local language: Hebrew. And millions of Olim must also learn Hebrew. I see no reason for an exception for the Arabic-speaking population in Jerusalem.

The discussion in the Knesset Committee seems a little bizarre, but interesting. In the press release, you can read: “The Subcommittee on Curricula in East Jerusalem and Their Supervision, chaired by MK Avichay Buaron (Likud), convened on Monday for a debate on the topic of training teachers in the framework of the five-year plan for east Jerusalem.

According to a study conducted by the Knesset Research and Information Center, in the 2024-2025 school year, some 125,000 pupils were enrolled in 200 schools and kindergartens in east Jerusalem; 84,000 of them attend municipality-owned formal state schools and recognized but unofficial schools and 15,400 are enrolled in private frameworks that are not supervised by the state.

According to figures submitted to the subcommittee by the Ministry of Education, some 6,720 teachers are employed in east Jerusalem, including 3,921 (58%) who are graduates of universities in the Palestinian Authority (Jenin, Hebron and Nablus)*. During the debate, Education Ministry representatives said most of the teachers in east Jerusalem are not Israeli citizens and reside in the PA.”

The security risk is evident and unacceptable. Israel Police representative Chief Supt. Eyal Haivri, advisor for Arab affairs in the Jerusalem District, presented figures showing that from the outbreak of the Swords of Iron War until November 2024, 247 minors were arrested in east Jerusalem for security offences. During this period, 86 arrests were made for offences of incitement, mutiny or incitement to mutiny; one minor was arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail, and 160 arrests were made for other security offences.

Russo from the Ministry of Education said the main reason these students choose not to enrol in Israeli institutions is that to do so one must have sufficient command of the Hebrew language. “They do not feel at home in our institutions, and more Israeli institutions should be opened in east Jerusalem, just as the Hebrew University, the [David Yellin Academic College of Education] and the [Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports] are doing,” she said. Her suggestion is bizarre, to say it very mildly.

Subcommittee Chair MK Buaron said and I agree cum grano salis, “We will not accept a reality in which teachers who studied in the PA will teach in Israel, and we will especially not allow teachers who live in the PA, which encourages terror, educates for terror and funds terror, to teach in Israel. This is inconceivable, and, God willing, we are in the midst of a process, together with all the relevant elements, to handle this event and change it, also through legislation, a government resolution, and policy.”

However, the solution is to annex East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. The story is settled. The “Palestinians” are free to leave Israel, if they are unhappy to learn Ivrit. The “Palestinians” have no business in Israel.
