Ukraine: The Secret Enemy of Israel?

Is Ukraine increasingly becoming a secret enemy of Israel? The partisanship of Ukraine against Israel and the support of Islamic forces is increasing and has reached dimensions that can no longer be ignored. Ukraine’s hostile attitude is evident in the UN, as the US Watch database clearly shows (query from 31.12.2024).

Even though Israel supplied immediately – after the Russian invasion of Ukraine started in February 2022 – about 3 million USD of medical goods.

Yesterday, 30.12.2024, Ukraine opened a consulate in Damascus. Ukraine made its decision pro-Jihad and Islamism. Not smart.

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, celebrated on X this step against freedom and democracy: “Today, I had the honour of raising the Ukrainian flag over our Honorary Consulate in Damascus. Alongside Honorary Consul General Tamer Altounsi and members of our community. I thanked them for preserving the Ukrainian language and culture.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ukraine announced further support for the Jihadist ISIS state of Syria: “Today in Damascus, I met with the leader of the Syrian administration Ahmed Al-Sharaa and personally conveyed the message of Ukraine’s President @ZelenskyyUa to the Syrian people: we are with you and ready to assist in restoring normal life, stability, and food security. (…) We rely on the new Syria respecting international law, including Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. This will pave the way to fully restoring our diplomatic ties, political dialogue, and diplomatic presence. We are ready to develop cooperation in a number of areas.

One user commented: “UkroNazis are meeting with Al-Qaeda terrorists – a marriage made in heaven.” Besides that, some strategic considerations and backdrops are obvious:

  • It is safe to assume that some of the billions that Biden transferred to Ukraine will find their way directly to Damascus after Biden removed the new terror regime from the US list of terrorist organizations and placed a bounty on Al-Golani (aka Al-Jolani). The global left wants to bring Syria into play as a new player against Israel. The overthrow of the Mullah regime seems possible. The global left needs a strategic successor in the Middle East.

  • Syria is currently being established as a Turkish province. A move that also plays into the hands of the global left. Turkey is a reliable Islamist partner that has deep ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Qatar. Both are major sources of funding for the left-wing US universities, which represent a valuable base for the left-wing US Democrats. And Turkey is an opponent of Putin, which is particularly pleasing to Ukraine.
  • This tactical alliance could potentially produce a potential advocate (Turkey) for Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO membership. European powers also welcome this, as the costs of Ukraine’s defence are suddenly on the US table. However, it is foreseeable that President-elect Donald J. Trump will not play along here.
  • A blatant revenge of the Ukrainian political echelon for Israel’s policy of neutrality towards the Russo-Ukrainian war. It goes back to Lapid, who – at that time Prime Minister – did not want to supply weapons to Ukraine. And when Lapid was foreign minister, he regularly angered Russia. Lapid thus manoeuvred Israel into a crossfire, which continues to have negative effects today.

It is to be hoped that Ukraine will come to its senses and see that Islamists cannot be a partners and that they are on the road to defeat.

Israel is and remains the decisive regional power in the Middle East with very good ties to the new US government, which views Ukraine with more than a little scepticism.

It would be better for Ukraine to find a new path with Israel. Israel is defending itself successfully and has a resilient democracy and economy, something Ukraine can only dream of.
